Putting Practice is Boring!

How much of your golf game is putting?  The answer for the average golfer is 40 – 50%.  WOW!  That is a huge portion of the game, but we just don’t seem to practice putting that much, why?  Because it is B-O-R-I-N-G to practice putt after putt after putt.  But it is great fun to hit Drivers (which by the way is only 10% of your game).

Bottom line: We practice Putting 10% of the time and Drivers 90 % of the time.  This is backwards because we putt way more than we Drive the ball, don’t we?  The reason we practice driving over putting is because driving the ball is way more fun.  So, to improve our game and our practice habits, we need to come up with a way to practice putting that is not boring.  Here is a putting games to keep it interesting.

Putting Game #1 – “Draw Back”:  This game is a great time and even better when played in competition with a playing partner.  The game is played like this: 1) Line up about 20 feet from the hole. 2) Putt your ball up there as close as you can. 3) When you get to your ball “draw is back” a club length from where it is and then putt from there. 4) Draw back every time until you make the put.  Basically, the shortest putt you will have to make will be the length of your putter.

Lastly, don’t ever feel like you can only practice putting at the course.  Practice at home on the carpet or at the office.  That’s why they created speaker phones isn’t it?
